We're joining in on the Super Saturday festivities with our Year of the Snake lantern by Artist-in-Residence Ling Tang! Take your family photos, greet your neighbors, and enjoy the confetti at Mott St from 2:30-4:30PM. Celebrations for Ling’s lantern will culminate at 4PM with a lion dance performance by Tai Look Lion Dance and Ling!

Super Saturday is a custom unique to New York City’s Chinatown that began in the 1960’s. Since Chinatown shops used to be closed on New Year's Day, lion dance troupes would return to the streets on the first or second Saturday after New Year’s Day to perform (and receive red envelopes of cash) from shop owners. Compared to the festivities of New Year's Day which may fall on a weekday, Super Saturday festivities draw more lion and dragon dance troupes from all over the city and result in larger crowds and a thicker layer of confetti on the streets!
